A firm has won an order with a potential total value of $50 million to supply U.S. Special Forces troops with miniaturised laser sights.

B.E. Meyers & Co. specialises in supplying advanced photonics (light wave) solutions for the military, law enforcement, consumer, and aerospace applications.

A U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) statement this week revealed that the firm, based not far from Seattle in Washington State, is being awarded a contract from USSOCOM (U.S. Special Operations Command) for the acquisition of its ultra-high-power miniaturised laser aiming system and associated repairs.

The SAL-UHP ordered by the DoD is a variant of the B.E. Meyers & Co. DAGIR Multi-Platform Advanced Laser System; it is based on a revolutionary new Vertical-Cavity, Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) core.

The SAL-UHP contract kit configuration includes proven system accessories such as remote activation components from Unity Tactical, as well as modular storage pouches from Spiritus Systems.

“We are honored to be able to support the USSOCOM community on the SAL-UHP program, and to provide a true technological advantage to those operators who depend on them,” said Matthew Meyers, CEO and second-generation owner of B.E. Meyers & Co.

“By working closely with the customer over the last several years, our applied sciences and development teams have kept the needs of the end-user at the forefront of their efforts every step of the way.”

As per Tuesday’s statement, the order is for an “indefinite” number of units over a five-year period with a minimum order value of $500,000 and a maximum total ceiling of $49,900,000.

The privately-owned firm was established in 1974; its products include visible, near infrared, and Short Wavelength InfraRed (SWIR) aiming, illumination, and pointing lasers as well as non-lethal laser dazzlers.

They can be fitted on individual weapons, crew-served weapons, and as integral offensive components on fixed-wing aircraft, rotary-wing-aircraft, and various configurations of unmanned ground vehicles and airborne systems.

The company’s customers include all U.S. military branches, including most Special Operations Forces, as well as many U.S. Prime Contractors, NATO military elements, law enforcement organisations, and US intelligence agencies. The firm exports to 38 nations worldwide.
