AeroVironment, the U.S. military's chief supplier of small drones, has won a $990m contract to supply the U.S. Army with loitering munitions.

The American defence contractor is based in Arlington, Virginia and makes the Raven reconnaissance drone and the Switchblade kamikaze attack drone.

As per a Pentagon press statement yesterday (Tuesday), the U.S. Department of Defence (DoD) has "awarded a $990,000,000 hybrid (cost-plus-fixed-fee and firm-fixed-price) contract to provide an organic, stand-off capability to dismounted infantry formations capable of destroying tanks, light armored vehicles, hardened targets, defilade and personnel targets."

The equipment is due to be delivered by August 2029.
