Hensoldt Bags Big New Order For Dynahawk Sights
Germany's armed forces have confirmed a new multi-million-Euro order for Hensoldt's Dynahawk fire control sighting system.
The German defence contractor has secured an order starting immediately and stretching into 2025 and possibly 2026 to supply the sights to the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw).
Dynahawk works with two separate weapons systems used by the Bundeswehr: the "Wirkmittel 90" (DND RGW90) and the "leichte Wirkmittel 1800+" (MBDA Enforcer).
As per a company press release, the system features a 5.5x optical magnification and a laser rangefinder. It is also equipped with sensors factoring in temperature and air pressure and has several modes for engaging stationary and moving targets. It automatically recognises the kind of ammunition the weapon has loaded and makes the ballistics calculations to ensure an accurate strike. Air-burst or on-contact weapon ignition points can also be preselected.
"With the 'Dynahawk', we are significantly increasing the first-hit probability on dynamic and distant targets of the deployed anti-tank weapons," says Josef Reif, Sales Manager in the Sights division. "Thanks to the FLV in conjunction with the Hensoldt IRV-MR night vision attachment, we can also guarantee operational capability at night."
A multinational firm based near Munich, Hensoldt makes platform-independent sensors for a range of defence and security systems. As per its press statement, in 2023 Hensoldt achieved a turnover of €1.85 billion and employs around 8,000 people.
