Indra will deploy a new long-range Lanza 3D radar at Phuket Air Base, strengthening Thailand’s air surveillance and control capabilities across a strategically vital maritime corridor.
The base sits opposite one of the busiest sea routes linking the Indian Ocean to the Strait of Malacca. Indra’s radar will bolster airspace monitoring in a region central to regional security, as per a recent press statement.
The deal marks the third long-range Lanza 3D radar the Royal Thai Air Force has ordered from Indra, underscoring confidence in a system already proven in service. It also cements Indra’s standing as a trusted supplier to Thailand’s Armed Forces, which already operate several of the company’s systems.
Representatives from Thailand signed the contract at Indra’s Madrid headquarters during a recent visit. Thai officials toured facilities where the company develops advanced defence technologies before finalising the agreement.
The Lanza 3D long-range radar (LRR) detects threats ranging from slow-moving drones to stealth aircraft and missiles. Operating in the L band, it performs reliably in humid conditions and resists interference in saturated environments. NATO and armed forces worldwide already rely on the radar family.
The contract also covers command and control capabilities built on Indra’s air defence (AIRDEF) system, expanding the solution’s integrated reach.
Indra ranks among the world’s leading military and civil radar manufacturers. Its systems combine high digitalisation with strong interoperability, allowing them to integrate into wider defence networks.
Air surveillance has grown increasingly critical as drones and saturation attacks demand simultaneous detection of multiple targets, reinforcing why nations continue investing in radar modernisation programmes like Thailand’s.
