Paratroopers Hail New $4.5m Facilities Boost

U.S. Army paratroopers in Italy will be able to deploy faster thanks to the completion of a new storage facility at Aviano Air Base.

The $4.5 million new warehouse will be used to store equipment for paratroopers from the 173rd Airborne Brigade, as per a recent U.S. Army press statement.

General Christopher Cavoli, commander, U.S. European Command & Supreme Allied Commander Europe, led a ribbon-cutting ceremony last Wednesday (October 9), alongside senior U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army and Italian military leaders.

Building work on the the 13,500sq ft facility began in autumn 2022 and the warehouse took almost two years to construct. It will support the brigade's contingency operations and will mean the unit can deploy faster to missions in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Having supplies close to the airfield reduces the army’s response times; Capt. Danielle Bauer, commander of Kilo Company, 173rd Brigade Support Battalion, called it a “crucial hub for the rapid outload of equipment,” because it streamlines logistics and enhances interoperability with the U.S. Air Force.
