Poland has put pen to paper on a deal to acquire the first 28 of its new Bóbr-3 reconnaissance vehicles.

The PLN 800 million deal (roughly £160m) was signed off on Wednesday on the eve of the annual Polish Armed Forces Day at the home of the 1st Armored Brigade in Warsaw, in a ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

The Bobr-3 (which translates as 'Beaver') is an amphibious Light Armored Reconnaissance Transporter (LOTR) and will replace the Polish Army's ageing Soviet-era BRDM-2 units. The Bobr-3 is built by Polish firm AMZ-Kutno.

Under the Polish government's Kleszcz acquisition programme agreed in February its army is earmarked to receive up to 286 of the Bobr-3 units between now and 2035.
