What Might Save Ukrainian Skies From Drones: More Drones?
Proving true the old saying that necessity is the mother of invention, Ukraine has started to use first-person view drones to intercept Russian strike and surveillance drones. Starved of conventional air defence missiles and devoid of any reliable and cost-effective means to down Russian drones, Ukraine had to watch as the Russians flew unimpeded behind their lines.
This free range of movement was bearing tremendous fruit for the Russians; several Ukrainian HIMARS were spotted, then damaged or destroyed, precious fighter jets were put out of action, national infrastructure was decimated, and armoured units suffered tremendous attrition.
Now, Ukraine has another tool in its arsenal to contend with a mass of aerial threats that threaten to deprive frontline infantry of critical support from the rear.
