Bigwigs from Congress and the U.S. Embassy have been touring a U.S. Army maintenance and warehouse facility in Poland designed to enhance rapid deployment and increase combat readiness.

The Army Prepositioned Stocks (APS) warehouse and maintenance site in Powidz measures 650,000sq ft and houses almost 200 armored combat vehicles including several dozen M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tanks (MBTs).

The presence of the most recently established APS facility in Poland and five others like it across four other European nations helps reduce deployment timelines, improves deterrence and provides additional combat power for contingency operations. APS equipment may also be drawn for use in training and NATO exercises like U.S. Army Europe and Africa’s DEFENDER series.

As per a U.S. Army press statement, last week the delegation from Congress and the U.S. Embassy visited the Powidz facility to assess and provide first-hand information and knowledge on operations in Poland back to Congress.
