Slovakian Arms Firm Hails Howitzer Milestone
Slovakian firm Konštrukta – Defence has reached a new milestone in the development of its Eva M2 self-propelled howitzer.
The Eva M2 — a lighter version of its BIA 6×6 — has just successfully completed its first live-firing tests, the company recently announced.
The weapon features a 155mm-calibre, 8-metre-long cannon which has a range of about 25 miles using Extended Range Full Bore-Base Bleed (ERFB-BB) shells.
It can fire five rounds in the first 60 seconds and after that nine rounds every two minutes; its preloaded automatic magazines carry 24 rounds which can be fired from inside the cabin.
The gun is mounted on the firm’s Tatra 815 6x6 chassis, though an 8x8 will also be made available. Its cabin can protect its crew against nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) weapons and small arms fire, as well as mounted weapons and shrapnel.
As per a company press release, the recent firing tests were focusing on the system’s chassis strength and stability as well as “non-shooting tests for vertical grade, trench and climb rate.”
