Swedish Armoured Personnel Carrier Heading To Ukraine
A tracked armoured personnel carrier (APC) previously in use with the Swedish Army is heading to the Ukraine.
The PbV 302 — developed by Hägglund & Söner, now BAE Systems Hägglunds — comes equipped with an aircraft cannon and saw service in combat operations in Bosnia and Kosovo.
As per a press statement this week from Ukraine's Ministry of Defence, its government has welcomed the imminent arrival of the 13-ton-plus vehicle, which was in service with the Swedish Army until 2014.
The APC has wide tracks which are said to exert less force on the ground than a tractor, enabling it to traverse rough off-road terrain, as well as soft and unstable surfaces like mud and sand, and to cross water obstacles.
It is armed with 20 mm Hispano-Suiza automatic cannon, which was also installed on aircraft, and its front armor is designed to withstand a direct impact from a 20mm artillery shell. It can reach a top speed of about 40mph.
