Upgraded Armoured Personnel Carrier Enters Fight In Ukraine
An upgraded version of a Soviet-era Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) will soon be used by Ukrainian forces in their fight against the Russians.
The 8-wheeled Khorunzhyi APC is a modernised and improved version of the BTR-60 featuring better armour and more engine power.
As per yesterday’s press release from Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence (MoD), the new domestically produced APC boasts Finnish steel which can repel 7.62 mm steel-core bullets, while its mine-resistant seats and hull-bottom design can safeguard troops from blast effects equivalent to 6kg of TNT.
The front armour is designed to be immune to bullets fired from a heavy machine gun from just 10 metres away.
There are six different variants of the Khorunzhyi APC, including an armed version with either a 14.5mm machine gun or a 30x113mm cannon. The combat vehicle can reach over 50mph and has a range of over 300 miles; there’s also a self-propelled mortar version.
Other versions are straight personnel carriers, or ones optimised for medical evacuation, repair and recovery, and command and control.
