U.S. Army Approves $1.3bn Javelin Contract
Lockheed Martin and Raytheon have received a $1.3 billion boost from news that the U.S. Army has given the green light to its biggest-ever order of Javelin missiles.
As per yesterday's press announcement by Raytheon, the Pentagon has approved the Javelin Joint Venture (JJV) a 2024 fiscal-year production contract for the missiles and associated equipment and services as part of an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) deal initially struck last spring.
Last year, the JJV began production ramp-up activities to increase its production run to almost 4,000 missiles per year by late 2026. The venture supplies Javelin weaponry to over 25 different countries around the globe; to date, the JJV has produced more than 50,000 missiles and more than 12,000 reusable Command Launch Units.
“Now more than ever, Javelin is recognized as the most effective, combat-proven anti-armor weapon system in the world,” Andy Amaro, JJV president and Javelin program director at Raytheon, an RTX business. “Through this contract, we will continue to produce and deliver this needed capability to support global ground forces in their efforts to protect and defend their interests and sovereignty.”
Part of the new procurement deal announced this week includes 4,000 replacements for missiles donated to the Ukraine.
“With the increased demand for Javelin worldwide, our ability to ramp production to support our Army customer and global users is more important now than ever,” said Dave Pantano, JJV vice president and Lockheed Martin Javelin program director.
