Lieutenant Colonel Alphons Jacobs
LTC Alphons Jacobs was born in The Hague, The Netherlands on October 16th 1976. He is an active duty RW pilot, unit commander and holds a MSc in Public Administration from the University of Leiden and an EMSD in strategic and security studies from the Netherlands Defence Academy.
LTC Jacobs was commissioned through the Royal Military Academy in Breda in 1995. After RW flight training in Ft Rucker, Alabama (US) and aircraft qualification in Stavanger (Norway) he became an AS532U2 Cougar helicopter pilot in the 300 Squadron within the Tactical Helicopter Group (THG - later the Defence Helicopter Command (DHC)) of the Royal Netherlands Airforce (RNLAF).
He is a weapons and tactics instructor since 2005 and went for staff duties leaving the squadron in 2010 as flight commander, air mission commander and participated in missions in former Yugoslavia (SFOR), Iraq (SFIR) and Afghanistan (ISAF). During these years and assignments he worked with and alongside Special Forces. In his last assignment for ISAF he took position a S3 flight commander of the Cougar unit supporting ISAF and National SOF. LTC Jacobs returned to the unit in 2018 as head of operations, leaving in 2021 for advanced command and staff college.
For staff duties LTC Jacobs was posted at the Airforce HQ, MOD Directorate Operations (DOPS) and MOD Directorate Operational Readiness (DAOG). In this period he worked with and alongside NATO partners.
In 2023 he returned again to 300 Squadron to take over command of this unit and still actively flies the AS532U2 Cougar helicopter. He has 2000 flying hours on several types. Since October 1st 2024 the 300 Squadron is retasked from conventional RW operations to Special Operations and has been renamed 300 Special Operations Squadron.
LTC Jacobs is married to Valette and together they have three sons; Mick (2008), Dean (2012) and Alec (2014). They live in The Hague (the Netherlands) close to family, friends and the sea.
