Colonel Gheorghe - Cristian Boangăr was born on March 21, 1973, in the town of Frecăței, Tulcea county. Graduated from the Pedagogical High School in the city of Tulcea (1991), later from the "Ioan Vodă" Military Institute of Artillery and Geodesy (1995), he began his military career performing the position of firing platoon commander, 122 mm Howitzer Battery commander within the Division 29 Artillery, after which he was appointed, in 1999, Head of Research within the 7th Artillery Brigade, then in 2005 he made the step to the Special Operations structures.
Colonel Gheorghe - Cristian BOANGĂR served as the Director of the Special Operations Forces Command starting from September 2019. Previously, during 2018-2019, he held the position of deputy for resources of the Chief of Staff at the same command, during 2014- 2018 being in command of the 54th Support Battalion "Horea, Cloșca and Crișan". In his career, the officer also held positions such as Head of Logistics, Company Commander, Staff Officer in S4 Logistics within the first Special Operations structure of the Romanian Army, the 51st Special Operations Battalion "Vulturii".
As of October 11, 2023, he serves as Deputy for Resources of the Chief of Staff of the Land Forces.
He was deployed twice in NATO and coalition operations in the Afghanistan theater of operations, in 2006 and 2009.
He has completed numerous forms of studies and training, including the post-graduate training and continuous professional development program of Strategic Leadership in Defense Intelligence (2018), Asymmetric Warfare Course - Joint Special Operations University - Florida (2016), the university master's studies, specialization Interarme Land Forces Management (2014), Romanian Operational Planning Course (2011) or NATO Special Operations Forces Orientation Course (2008).
On the flight and parachuting line, the officer is a certified military parachutist since 1993 and holds all the qualifications and specializations issued by the national aeronautical authority, on all types of parachutes in the Romanian Army.
Throughout his career, within the structures of the Special Operations Forces (SOS), the officer was directly involved and decisively contributed to the endowment, modernization and endowment of the SOS with essential, state-of-the-art equipment, interoperable with similar structures within the North Atlantic Alliance and strategic partnerships.
During his career he received national and international awards and medals, of which the most important should be mentioned: "Defense Meritorious Service Medal" (USA), the Emblem of Honor of the Romanian Army, the Emblem of Honor of the Special Operations Forces, the Emblem of Honor of the Land Forces, the Badge of Honor of the Air Force, the Badge of Honor of Military Medicine, the Badge of Honor of the Domain and Infrastructure Directorate and the NATO "Non-Article 5" Medal.
