Brigadier Jon West
Brigadier Jon West commissioned into the Royal Logistic Corps in 1999 and is delighted to have been appointed as Assistant Chief of Staff Logistics in Field Army Headquarters from September 2024.
On commissioning from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, his first posting as a Troop Commander was to 3 Close Support Regiment, deploying to Bosnia on Operation PALATINE. In 2003, he moved to 27 Transport Regiment and immediately deployed to Northern Ireland to command the Roulement Transport Squadron on Operation BANNER. In 2005, he was appointed Adjutant of 17 Port and Maritime Regiment.
After a stint as SO2 Logistic Plans branch at Headquarters Land Forces in Wilton, he returned to 17 Port and Maritime Regiment to assume command of 52 Port Squadron where he deployed Port Task Groups in support of Operation HERRICK. In 2012, he moved to Army Headquarters as SO2 Combat Service Support Commitments, within the Army Directorate for Operations and Contingencies. In this role he deployed to Afghanistan with PJHQ on several Theatre Capability Reviews and Operational Planning Teams conducting planning for Operation HERRICK redeployment.
Post attendance on the Advanced Command and Staff Course, he was assigned to Army Headquarters as SO1 Logistic Capability Development within Capability Directorate. In 2017, he assumed command of 27 Regiment in Aldershot, leading the Regiment through a full training cycle for warfighting supporting 3 (UK) Division. This was followed by a period of high readiness for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Operations for the 2018 hurricane season in the Caribbean; as well as preparing for Op TOSCA, the United Nations mission in Cyprus.
In 2020 he was appointed Colonel of the Royal Logistic Corps establishing the Corps HQ in its new home location in Worthy Down and led the Corps through a challenging 2 years with much of the Corps committed to UK resilience operations in support of the COVID-19 Pandemic response. In 2022 he was appointed Assistant Head CSS in Futures Army HQ where he has been leading the design of the Army’s future support structures.
