Brigadier General Lorenzo Del Maso

Deputy Commander, EUFOR

BG DAL MASO was born in Bari (ITA) on the 20th of May 1968.

He attended the 169th Class of the Italian Army Military Academy in Modena from 1987 to 1989. Following his commission as 2nd Lt he completed his military education at the “Scuola di Applicazione” in Torino.

In Jan 1992, as 1st Lt., he was assigned to the 85th Infantry Regiment "Verona" in Montorio Veronese and served as Recruit Platoon Commander.

In July 1992, he was assigned to the 66th Mechanized Infantry Bn in Forlì, where he served as Rifle Platoon Commander.

In 1993, as Platoon Commander he took part in the UN operation in Somalia (UNOSOM - IBIS 2).
Later on, as Captain, he commanded a Mortar Coy and was the regimental Chief S1.
In 1998, he served in Sarajevo (BiH) in the NATO-led Operation Constant Forge, as S3 SO and Chief S1.

In 1999 he attended the 126th General Staff Course at the War College in Civitavecchia.
In 2000, he took part in the NATO-led Mission Joint Guardian, in Pristina (Kosovo), as HQ KFOR J4 Log Plans SO.

Back in Forlì, in September 2000 he was posted to the Operational Land Forces HQ in Verona as J1 SO.
Promoted to Major in 2003, he attended the 6th Joint General Staff Course at the Joint General Staff Superior Institute (ISSMI) in Rome.

From November 2004 to September 2007, he was deployed as LNO to the German Defence General Staff in Berlin. Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and back in Italy he served as SO in the Deputy CHOD’s Office in Rome.

From October 2009 to October 2010, he led the 1

st Bn / 66th Airmobile Infantry Regiment, taking part in the UNIFIL Mission Leonte VII in Lebanon. After that, he was assigned to the Defence General Staff 3rd Division – Military Policy and Plans, where he served, first as the UN and MN Forces Section Chief and then as the Studies and Personnel Documentation Section Chief in the Deputy CHOD’s Office.


From December 2013 to September 2015, he commanded the 66th Airmobile Infantry Regiment.
From December 2015 to September 2016, he served as the JOC Chief at the UNIFIL HQ in Naqoura (Lebanon).

In July 2017 he was promoted to Brigadier General and, by September of the same year, he became DCOS Operations at the Operational Land Forces Command and Army Operational Command in Rome.


From September 2019 to September 2022 he was appointed as the Defence Attaché to the Italian Embassy in Berlin. Returned to Italy, he took up the position of DCOS Support at the Command for Training, Specialization and Doctrine of the ITA Army HQ.

He speaks English and German and holds master’s degrees in Computer Sciences and in Strategic Sciences, along with two 2nd level master’s degrees (in Strategic Sciences and Strategic – Military International Studies). He attended numerous training and professional courses in Italy and abroad.


He is married to Ms. Cinzia and has two daughters, Alessia and Elisa, 28 and 24 years old, respectively. BG DAL MASO enjoys sports, basketball in particular, and in his free time he likes hiking with his three dogs.
