Brigadier General Thierry Tricand de La Goutte
Brigadier General Thierry TRICAND de la GOUTTE has commanded the Engineer School in Angers, France, since August 2023.
Born on 5th July 1971 in Bayonne, France, he attended the Saint-Cyr Cadet Officer Academy (1992- 1995). He chose the Army Engineer branch and attended the Engineer specialization course in Angers (1995-96). He chose to serve in the 17th Airborne Engineer Regiment (Régiment du génie parachutiste - 17e RGP), in Montauban, France, where he spent his operational career: Platoon leader (1996-1999), Combat Engineer Company Commander (2001-2003), Regimental Chief Operations Officer (2010- 2012), and finally as Regimental Commander (2014-2017). With the 17th, he deployed on overseas operations in Tchad (1997), in Kosovo (2002), in Afghanistan (twice in 2003 and 2011) and in Iraq (2016). He also deployed several times on homeland security operations, in particular in Operation Sentinel in Paris (2017).
He was assigned as an instructor in Saint-Cyr Officer Academy in Coëtquidan (1999-2001), and commanded the Engineer officer training division in Angers (2008-2010). He served on the Joint staff in the « Centre de planification et de conduite des opérations » - CPCO (2004-2006), the French Joint operational HQ. He has had several assignments in future capabilities development: in the Army Staff « Bureau Plans » (2012-2014), in the Engineer futures branch (2017-2019), and in the Capability Coherence Division of the Joint Staff (2019-2022). His last assignment was commander of the Scorpion capability development Division in Land Forces Command (« Commandement des Forces Terrestres » – CFT) in Lille, France (2022-2023).
Brigadier General Thierry TRICAND de la GOUTTE is a Distinguished Graduate of the US Engineer School (Engineer Captain Career Course in Fort Leonard Wood, 2001). He graduated from the French Joint Staff College (Ecole de Guerre) in Paris (2007-2008), and the NATO Defence College in Rome (2018). He is an Officer of the Legion of Honour, and recipient of the Cross for Military Valour.
