Colonel Alex West
Commissioning into The Royal Logistic Corps in 2000, regimental duty included troop command at the Commando Logistic Regiment Royal Marines, squadron command of 28 Squadron The Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment, and he was privileged to be the Commander 10 The Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment, the highlight of his career.
At staff, Colonel West has served twice at the UK Permanent Joint Headquarters in J1 appointments, was Deputy Chief of Staff of 12th Armoured Infantry Brigade, and was SO1 Operations & Plans in Defence Support Operations within the Ministry of Defence, London.
In terms of operational service, he deployed to Afghanistan on Operation JACANA, and on Operations HERRICK 4, 8 and 16. His regiment supported Operation RESCRIPT during the COVID pandemic. He deployed to Baghdad on Operation SHADER 12 as NATO’s senior logistics advisor to the Iraqi Ministry of Defence.
A graduate of the Advanced Command and Staff Course, Colonel West has an MA in Defence Studies from King’s College London
He lives in Guildford and spends his spare time reading about history, supporting Surrey County Cricket Club, and seeing his two young sons.
