Captain Maarten Houben

Ops and Training Officer - Field Accommodation Unit, Belgian Army

Captain Houben Maarten is Commander of the Deployed Forces Infrastructure Detachment of the Field Accommodation Unit, based in Beauvechain (Belgium). He joined the Belgian Defence in 2012. After obtaining his masters degree at the Belgian Royal Military Academy and completing his engineer training, he joined the 11th Engineer Battalion in 2018, as platoon commander in the 1st combat engineer company. He took his next assignment in 2020 in the Engineer School, as chief of the Force Protection Engineering & Bridging Dept. During the transformation of the Engineer School, he assumed the position as head of the technical detachment. In 2023, he joined the Field Accommodation unit. Captain Houben has been deployed in Estonia (eFP, 2019) and had the opportunity to take part in multiple deployments of the Field Accommodation Unit during the past years (Lithuania, Hungary, Gabon). He is currently actively participating in the implementation of the operational energy management strategy within the Field Accommodation Unit.
