Tom Newbery, Senior Principal Scientist at Dstl, is a Land survivability specialist in Dstl.  He is the Technical Authority for the Land Counter Effector and Sensors research project and Dstl’s leading expert on Active Protection Systems in the Land environment.

Tom has led MOD’s APS research since 2011, covering the Medusa soft-kill assessments, the development of the Modular Integrated Protection Systems architecture and various supporting research activities.  Tom is now supporting the British Army’s procurement of Trophy APS for the CHALLENGER 3 programme.  He is a Chartered Physicist and has experience across optics, sensor systems, signal processing, systems analysis and explosives engineering.
