Personal Profile

Dr. William Chih-tung Chung is an assistant research fellow in the Division of Defense Strategy and Resources at the Institute for National Defense and Security Research, Taiwan, an assistant professor at the National Defence University, Taiwan, and an associated senior research fellow at ISDP, Stockholm. His research interests include security and strategic studies with a particular focus on Taiwan’s national security strategy, Sino-American relations, the South China Sea, European security, and military technology development. His research and commentary on Taiwan’s security appears in international media outlets such as BBC, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, Der Spiegel, Politiken, Agencia EFE. He used to be a senior parliament assistant of Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan from 1991 to 1999. He completed his military service as a second lieutenant in political warfare division from 1988 to 1990. He holds a Ph.D. from the Department of International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science, a M.A. in Department of War Studies from the King’s College London, and a B.A. in Department of Political Science from National Taiwan University.
