DCOS Plans, NATO Joint Support and Enabling Command
Brigadier Mark Comer was born and raised in Belfast. He joined the British Army in 1993 as a soldier in 3 R IRISH, serving in Northern Ireland for two years before attending the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He commissioned into the Royal Logistic Corps undertaking operational deployments to Northern Ireland and Bosnia before returning to Sandhurst as an instructor.
As a staff officer, he deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan in logistic roles and served as a staff officer in HQ 1 (UK) Armoured Division in Germany. He attended UK Advanced Command and Staff Course and subsequently spent a year in the Army HQ as a programme manager for future logistic equipment. At Regimental Duty, he commanded a Squadron in Iraq running a detention facility and the UN Multinational Mobile Force Reserve in Cyprus. As Second in Command of 6 Regiment RLC, he deployed to Afghanistan in the UK Theatre Logistic Group. He commanded 159 Regiment RLC, an Army Reserve Regiment in the Midlands.
On promotion to Colonel in 2017, he became Chief of Staff of Enabling Command at HQ Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, taking part in numerous NATO exercises. In 2019, he became ACOS Support in the Standing Joint Force Headquarters, which included coordinating the UK response to the COVID pandemic in the Caribbean. He joined the Permanent Joint Headquarters in 2021, conducting the Non-Combatant Evacuation from Kabul in August 2021. After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he helped coordinate the delivery of UK and international military aid. He joined the NATO International Military Staff as the Deputy Director Logistic and Resources Division on promotion to Brigadier in July 2022. He joined NATO’s Joint Support and Enabling Command as DCOS Plans in Summer 2025.
Mark has an MSc in Logistics and an MA in Defence Studies. He is married to Johanna, a Police Officer in the UK and is the luckiest Daddy in the world with three lovely children; Charlotte and Scarlett (17) and Thomas (16). Any free time is spent renovating their 300 year-old family home.
