Chief of Staff, EU Military Assistance Mission in Support of Ukraine
Brigadier General Dimitrios NIKOLAKAKOS was born on July 04, 1971 in Athens. He
entered the Hellenic Military Academy in 1990 and graduated in 1994 with the rank of
Second Lieutenant in the Artillery.
Between 1997 and 2006, he served in various Artillery Units (Field and Air Defence),
holding roles as a Platoon, Battery Commander, Operations-Intelligence Officer, Battalion
Deputy Commander in GBAD HAWK system (2010-11) and Battalion Commander of Heavy
and Multiple Rocket System Artillery (2015-17). In between he participated in Live and
evaluated Air defence firings, he was trained in FORT SILL OK, USA in Captains Artillery
School, he was trained in HAWK Phase III system in EL PASO TX, USA and certified the first
upgraded Hawk battery Phase III.
Between 2011 and 2014 he served in Joint Forces Naples, Italy, as Military Assistant
to ACOS J4 and staff officer to J9 Military Partnership Branch.
Between 2018 and 2021 he served as Chief of multinational team of NATO
evaluators in NATO missile Firing Installation (NAMFI) in Chania, Souda Bay Crete, Greece.
Between 2021 and 2024 he was posted in Hellenic National Defence General Staff,
Athens and served as staff office in Joint Operations Directorate in INFO OPS – STRATCOM,
Joint Operations and Joint Air Defence. In 2024 he was posted in XII Mechanized Division
«EVROS», as Artillery Commander.
He graduated Hellenic Supreme Joint War College (ADISPO) in 2015 and Hellenic
National Defence College (HNDC) in 2019. He holds a master in International Affairs and
Security from the University of Macedonia (2015-2016).
In 2025 he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General and posted to European
Union Military Assistance Mission (EUMAM) Combined Arms Training Command (CAT-C), in
Zagan Poland.
He is fluent in English, proficient in Italian, Spanish and Russian in basic level.
He is married and has one daughter Christina and son Konstantinos.
