Brigadier General Pablo Muñoz Bermudo

Brigadier General Pablo Muñoz Bermudo is the Commander of the Spanish Army Aviation Brigade.

He was born in Valencia (Spain) in 1967, and began his military career in 1987, by joining the Spanish Military Academy of Zaragoza. After five years there, he was commissioned as infantry lieutenant in 1992.

His first assignment was with an armored brigade in Madrid, as a tank platoon commander. During that period, he completed the helicopter pilot course.

Subsequently, in 1994, he was assigned to the 5th Heavy Helicopter Battalion, where he served for more than nine years as a lieutenant and captain. During this period, he was qualified as a Chinook pilot and took several courses related to aviation: flight safety, tactical flight patrol commander, tactical instrumental flight rules and Chinook instructor pilot.

In 2003, he was promoted to major and attended the general staff course. Once he completed the course, he served in the Personnel Directorate between 2005 and 2007. After that assignment, he returned to the aviation units, serving again in the 5th Heavy Helicopter Battalion and in the Army Aviation Brigade Headquarters until 2012, when he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. After his promotion, he took command of the 5th Heavy Helicopter Battalion.

When his command period ended, he was assigned for three years to the Eurocorps Headquarters, in Strasbourg, France.

Upon being promoted to colonel in 2019, he was commissioned as commander of the Army Aviation Maintenance Depot. After three years of service in that unit, he was appointed commander of the Army Aviation Brigade, where he was promoted to brigadier general in 2023.

General Muñoz Bermudo has experience in multinational operations: the NATO-led Stabilization Force (SFOR) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 2003; the NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Belgium, in 2007; the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, in 2008 and 2013; and the European Union Training Mission (EUTM) in Central African Republic, in 2017.

Throughout his career, Brigadier General Muñoz Bermudo has been awarded with medals and decorations from several countries –including Spain, Italy, Belgium, and the Central African Republic– as well as multinational organizations such as the European Union or NATO.

He is married with two children.
