Personal Profile

Coronel Juan Rodríguez was born on 2 September 1974. He joined the Military Academy in 1993, and in July 1998 he was commissioned as an engineer lieutenant in the 7th Airborne Sappers Unit, serving as platoon commander. He served as a captain in the 12th Pontoon and Engineer Specialities Regiment, where he commanded a Sappers Company and subsequently served as the regiment’s chief of operations. As a lieutenant colonel, he was assigned to the Eurocorps Headquarters, where he served as Plans Chief in the Engineers Branch. Colonel Rodríguez is currently appointed as Commander of the 1st Engineer Regiment. As an engineer, he participated in the “Solidarity Response” mission in Indonesia after the 2004 tsunami, and in the European Training Mission in Mali where he served as Head of the Infrastructure Section at the Force Headquarters. Furthermore, he has been deployed on NATO and United Nations missions in Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan as well as Lebanon. He graduated from the Staff and Command College of the Spanish Armed Forces in 2011, serving as a staff officer in various headquarters posts, as well as in the Plans Division of the Army General Staff. He graduated from the Portuguese Joint Staff Course in 2018.   He speaks English, Portuguese and has basic knowledge of French.
