Dr Andy Hodgson MA MEng PhD DIC AMRIN

Prior to joining RED Scientific as Head of Operational Analysis, where he is responsible for data science and AI/ML projects, Andy worked in British Army HQ as ‘Head of Information Exploitation’ for Babcock, delivering engineering insight to the army for the 30,000 vehicles in the land fleet.

He has twenty-five years’ experience delivering data-focussed insight to both military and industry. Defence, maritime, security and medical sectors have benefited from his ability to exploit maximum value from complex datasets and their meta-data. After gaining a PhD in quantum chemistry, he spent ten years in commercial shipping. Analysing data to support understanding of global trade movements and consumer behaviours was critical to building models to predict future activity. He then worked on Somali-based piracy in the Indian Ocean, undertaking intelligence gathering on the spatial and temporal distribution of piracy, in order to build a robust protection model to counter the piracy threat. More recently he has led projects to predict outcomes of land combat engagements, to identify causes of unavailability in military helicopters, and to understand the marine mammal environment to allow safe use of active sonar.
