Major General Jörg Thorsten See joined the Bundeswehr in 1986 as an enlisted combat engineer and was appointed officer candidate in 1988. He served as a platoon leader in Armoured Engineer Company 130. Upon promotion to Lieutenant, he studied political science at the Helmut-Schmidt-University (German Armed Forces University, Hamburg). Subsequently, he served again as a Platoon Leader and then S3 Officer in Armoured Engineer Company 150. In 1996, he assumed command of 2nd Company Engineer Battalion 320. From 1999 to 2000 he was assigned to Commander LANDCENT (Heidelberg) as Aide-de-Camp, including a 6-month operational tour in Kosovo. He attended the 43rd General Staff Officers´ Course (Army) at the German Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Hamburg and subsequently served from 2002 to 2004 as a Major/Lieutenant Colonel (General Staff) in the 37th Light Infantry Brigade as G4 and G3 Officer. In 2005, See completed the Advanced Command and Staff Course (ACSC 8) at the Joint Services Command and Staff College in Shrivenham, United Kingdom. Following a first assignment as Assistant Chief of Branch (General Officers Management Office) in the Federal Ministry of Defence in Bonn, he commanded 1st Armoured Engineer Battalion from 2007 to 2009. During his tenure, he deployed to Kabul as CJ35 at HQ ISAF. Following command, he was employed as Assistant Chief of Branch for Individual Personnel Management of Army Colonels in the Federal Ministry of Defence in Bonn and in 2010 he moved to Berlin as Deputy Military Assistant to the Federal Minister of Defence. From 2012 to 2014, See was the Chief of Section (NATO Missions and Operations) at the German Military Representative MC/NATO and EU in Brussels as a Colonel (General Staff). Between 2014 to 2016, he was employed as Chief of Branch for Security and Defence Policy, NATO, in the Federal Ministry of Defence in Berlin and subsequently as Chief of Branch (Senior Military Personnel Development) in the Federal Ministry of Defence in Bonn. In October 2016 See assumed command of 12th Panzer Brigade “Oberpfalz” and was promoted to Brigadier General. In May 2019, he joined the International Staff at the NATO HQ in Brussels. On promotion to Major General, he was appointed to Deputy Assistant Secretary General in the Defence Policy and Planning Division. In September 2024, Major General See assumed command of the 10th Panzer Division in Veitshöchheim. Major General See is married to Susanne and has two grown-up sons: Hendrik and Lauritz. In his spare time he likes walking or running, always accompanied by his Labrador, Elly. And, having a good cup of tea can never be wrong.
