Former Director of Basing and Infrastructure, British Army
David is an Army Major General with 30+ years military service on operations in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Africa and the Middle East including multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan at sub-unit, unit and formation level in both staff and command roles, including leading the UK’s Counter-IED taskforce in Helmand.
Following a stint as Colonel G5 in HQ ARRC, David led the Army’s largest Training Public Private Partnership as a Brigadier. He then served as Chief of Staff Home Command and Standing Joint Command (UK) directing Army recruiting, training and UK based resilience operations before moving onto the Army Board as Director of Basing and Infrastructure with responsibility for Defence’s training estate and Army’s built estate across UK and overseas.
David currently works as a Non-Exec Director, Company Board Chair and Govt Programme High Risk Reviewer, supporting the UK Cabinet Office. He is a Fellow and Vice President of the Institution of Royal Engineers, a Charity Trustee and Corps Colonel Commandant. He was awarded MBE and OBE on the 2007 and 2011 Operational Honours lists, the Ehrenkreuz der Bundeswehr in Gold in 2016 and CBE on the 2018 New Year’s Honours List.
