Major Jan Malmgren

I joined Finnish Defence Forces in 2008 as a conscript in the Air Force Reserve Officer Course. Following year I continued my studies in Cadet Course at Finnish National Defence University to become as a helicopter pilot in Finnish Border Guard. Since graduation in 2011 I have served in various operational pilot assignments. In 2017 I completed my Master’s degree, after which I have held leadership positions within flight operations. Most recently, I graduated from General Staff Officer Course and currently I serve as Chief of Operations at Air Patrol Squadron. I have participated in international operations with Frontex in the Mediterranean region and I have also been involved in international law enforcement aviation through police-led ATLAS cooperation. Currently, I work on issues related to the changing security environment and emerging threats, which also have an impact on our helicopter operations.
