Personal Profile

Major Sebastian Langvad began his career at the Norwegian Defence School for Intelligence and Security, specializing in Arabic language and the Middle East. He then served at patrol level in the Intelligence Battalion, including two deployments to Afghanistan.

After the Military Academy, he went on to lead an arctic light infantry platoon. This was followed by a deployment to the Middle East, where he had the opportunity to utilize his language and area expertise with local partners, in the fight against the Islamic State.
Both as a battalion staff officer and commander of the Ranger Company at the Norwegian Border Guard in Finnmark, Major Langvad immersed himself in planning and preparations for national defense in Northern Norway. Here, he placed particular emphasis on cooperation with the Home Guard and the overall Total Defense concept.
Parallel to his operational experience, Major Langvad has been a prolific contributor to the Norwegian professional military discourse on national doctrine and force design. Most recently, this centres on a research project on how to leverage emerging technologies to increase the Norwegian Army’s combat power.
He is currently serving as course director for Complex Operations at the Norwegian Military Academy.
