Personal Profile

Peter Sanderson, FRAeS, has over 30 years’ experience in manned and unmanned aviation, specializing in delivery of rapid capability enhancements and fielding of systems.

Peter worked for Leonrado (Westland Helicopters) for 17 years, in various design and development positions, culminating in being the design lead of the CH149 Cormorant Search and Rescue helicopter, then spending 3 years as the in service technical leading Engineer for the type.

Peter has also held Head of Design roles (Pt21J/DAOS) at Vector Aerospace/Standard aero, where he introduced the approvals to the business and used them to deliver design projects that include:

  • Navigation and communications Upgrades for a North African customer
  • DIRCM installations for a head of state aircraft type in MENA region
  • DIRCM installations on US aircraft types in the MENA region
  • Radar installations for UK test and trials
  • NCG cockpit upgrades to support active operations

This work has been delivered with the support of the local MAA and independently of the aircraft type OEM.

Peter has also led the development and industrialization of a specific category UAV type, including fielding trials and spiral development.

He is currently the Head of Design and Integration for HeliOperations delivering a number of civil and military modifications, including advanced sensor suites and weaponization.
