UTAC Millbrook, United Kingdom – U.S. defence manufacturer AM General has demonstrated its latest light tactical vehicle capabilities to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) as part of efforts to deepen its footprint in Britain’s defence mobility sector. The company also announced a strategic collaboration with Marshall Land Systems, a leading UK defence engineering firm, ahead of the MoD’s upcoming Land Mobility Programme (LMP) competition.
According to a company announcement, the event took place at the UTAC Millbrook Proving Grounds, where MoD representatives were invited to observe and test-drive AM General’s portfolio, including the HUMVEE, the Saber, and the JLTV A2 — the latest variant of the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle. The demonstration was designed to highlight the vehicles’ performance, durability, and adaptability across varied terrain, underscoring AM General’s intent to meet the MoD’s evolving operational requirements.
“We couldn’t be more excited to show the UK MoD what our light tactical vehicles are capable of,” said John Chadbourne, AM General’s Executive Vice President of Business Development. “This demonstration, along with our collaboration with Marshall Land Systems, marks the beginning of our efforts to support the UK Armed Forces and their mobility capabilities.”
Building an Anglo-American Industrial Partnership
The newly announced partnership between AM General and Marshall Land Systems aims to combine complementary strengths — AM General’s established U.S. manufacturing and vehicle design expertise with Marshall’s long-standing UK experience in systems integration, vehicle assembly, and in-service support.
The companies said their collaboration is expected to foster local industrial participation, strengthen sovereign capabilities, and bolster regional supply chain development within the UK defence ecosystem.
“Together with AM General, we are developing a compelling case for a collaboration that will combine the best of our respective capabilities,” said Gareth Williams, Chief Executive Officer of Marshall Land Systems. “This demonstration day is an ideal forum to outline our shared vision for a new generation of mobility for the British Army.”
Preparing for the UK’s Land Mobility Programme
The UK MoD’s Land Mobility Programme (LMP) aims to modernize the British Army’s light and medium vehicle fleets, improving mobility, survivability, and modularity across a range of mission profiles. While the MoD has not yet issued a formal solicitation, AM General expects an industry briefing to take place in November 2025, according to the company.
By joining forces with Marshall, AM General positions itself to compete strongly in what is anticipated to be a key UK procurement initiative. Both firms emphasized that their partnership seeks to deliver a comprehensive, interoperable mobility solution designed to meet future operational demands while supporting the UK’s industrial base.
The demonstration at Millbrook signals AM General’s growing interest in the UK defence market and aligns with broader efforts by international defence manufacturers to localize production and build long-term partnerships with British industry.
