Elbit Systems of America and Anduril Industries have announced a strategic teaming agreement to offer the SIGMA Mobile Tactical Cannon for the U.S. Army’s Self-Propelled Howitzer Modernization program.
As per a joint company announcement, the partnership combines Elbit America’s experience as a systems integrator and large ground vehicle manufacturer with Anduril’s expertise in C5ISR, battle management and autonomy software. The companies said SIGMA will enable sustained fires from a connected, mobile and survivable platform.
Team SIGMA also includes Oshkosh Defense, which manufactures the cannon’s 10×10 chassis and contributes mobility and protection to the platform. More than 300 U.S. suppliers form part of the wider team, providing engineering depth and manufacturing resilience across the supply chain.
Luke Savoie, president and CEO of Elbit America, said: “We’re proud to team with Anduril to reduce network integration risk and accelerate fielding. Built in the U.S. with a fully domestic supply chain, SIGMA is a combat-proven system that provides the modernisation and reliability the Army needs now.”
If selected, Anduril will manage SIGMA’s integration with U.S. fire control networks and Army command-and-control systems. The firm will also integrate its Lattice software platform into future SIGMA variants to support autonomy and improve mobility and lethality.
Michael Roder, managing director at Anduril, said: “On Team SIGMA, we’re providing expertise in software, edge compute and autonomy to deliver a connected, software-defined mobile artillery solution that will integrate seamlessly into existing Army command and control and fire control architectures.”
The Self-Propelled Howitzer Modernization program reflects the Army’s broader push to replace legacy cannon artillery with connected, survivable and more mobile systems. Long-range precision fires have become a renewed priority in U.S. land warfare doctrine, driven in part by lessons observed in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The programme has also attracted political support. U.S. Representative Craig Goldman said he was excited to see the two firms “working together to manufacture a cutting-edge military vehicle right here in America,” adding that Elbit America’s Fort Worth workforce is at the forefront of developing capabilities to strengthen American warfighters.
The Self-Propelled Howitzer Modernization program remains in its competitive phase. Team SIGMA cites proven hardware, integrated software and a broad domestic supplier base as key differentiators, with the companies stating the platform is production-ready and capable of meeting the Army’s modernisation timelines.
