BAE Systems has secured a contract from Boeing to supply AN/ALQ-250 Eagle Passive Active Warning Survivability Systems (EPAWSS) for the Republic of Korea Air Force’s F-15K Slam Eagle fighters, as per a recent press statement. The advanced electronic warfare systems will strengthen situational awareness and self-defence capabilities for ROKAF pilots operating in contested airspace.
The all-digital EPAWSS delivers 360-degree threat detection and countermeasures, letting pilots fly missions through hostile, signal-dense electromagnetic environments. The system enhances the F-15’s existing speed, range and payload, boosting combat airpower and air superiority.
Phillip Casalegno, F-15 international programme director at BAE Systems, commented: “We are working closely with Boeing, the ROKAF and regional industry teams to deliver the most technically advanced EW system for the F-15K aircraft upgrade.” He added: “Our focus is on providing allies with EW capabilities needed to support regional stability and security.”
EPAWSS forms a core part of the wider F-15K upgrade programme, a foreign military sales initiative between Boeing and South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration. The scheme will modify the country’s 59-strong F-15K fleet, sharpening its ability to counter emerging threats while maintaining interoperability with US forces.
The system is already in full-rate production, equipping new F-15EX Eagle II jets and retrofitted F-15E Eagles. EPAWSS has seen operational use and continues to receive software and firmware updates.
BAE Systems designs and builds its electronic warfare systems at facilities in Nashua, New Hampshire, and Austin, Texas, cementing its position as a leading provider of full-spectrum EW solutions for modern combat aircraft.
