Babcock has delivered the final Jackal 3 vehicle to the British Army, marking the end of a major production programme in Devonport, Plymouth.
The defence firm built 123 Jackal 3 and Jackal 3 Extenda vehicles alongside Supacat, a British defence engineering SME. The last vehicle off the line was a six-wheeled Extenda variant. It will now undergo testing before joining the Army’s operational fleet, as per a recent press statement.
The Jackal 3 family gives the Army a highly versatile high-mobility platform. It can handle reconnaissance, patrol and logistics tasks across demanding terrain. The programme also builds on the earlier delivery of 70 initial Jackal 3 vehicles, expanding the Army’s fleet with an enhanced capability.
Louise Atkinson, Chief Executive of Babcock’s Land and Mission Systems, commented: “The British Army needs a highly practical weapons platform with exemplary off-road performance, and with Supacat’s Jackal 3, we’ve delivered a fleet of vehicles that meets this requirement.” She added that the milestone reflects Babcock’s commitment to delivering high-quality military vehicles.
Phil Applegarth, Director and Head of Supacat, added that the programme demonstrates what strong collaboration between British firms can achieve, combining Babcock’s production expertise with Supacat’s design capabilities.
Major General Lizzie Faithfull-Davies, Director Land Environment for National Armaments, commented that the achievement reflects an enduring partnership built on responsiveness and engineering expertise.
Defence Minister Lord Coaker said the vehicles, built in Devonport, give British forces one of the most capable high-mobility platforms available. He added that the programme supports local industry and demonstrates defence as an engine for growth.
