The state-owned Polish Armaments Group (PGZ) has signed a deal with Rosomak to supply more than 1,200 Legwan (Iguana) 4×4 vehicles to the Polish Armed Forces.

As per a recent PGZ statement on its social media platforms, a framework agreement has just been signed in Siemianowice Śląskie to deliver a number of different variants of the Legwan platform in a procurement programme running to the end of 2035.

The Legwan 4×4 vehicle comes in two wheelbase versions; the longer of the two vehicles measures six metres and weighs up to seven tonnes. Its eight-speed gearbox and 225hp diesel engine gives each variant a top speed of 130kmh (about 80mph) and a range of over 500km (about 300 miles).

The platform features a roof-mounted turret which can be equipped with either a 12.7mm, 7.62mm or 40mm rifle or grenade launcher. The vehicle features a central wheel-inflation system and runflat tyres; its armour provides STANAG 4569 Level I ballistic protection

President of the Management Board of PGZ Adam Leszkiewicz commented: “The Legwan 4×4 is Poland’s response to contemporary battlefield challenges and further proof that the domestic defense industry can meet the highest standards.”

He added: “This investment not only represents a tangible increase in defense capabilities, but also an example of how cooperation between state and industry translates into economic development and national security.”
