Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has purchased a new reconnaissance and patrol robot system for the Armed Forces, as per a recent press statement. Danish supplier Nordic Wing will deliver the so-called Reconnaissance-Strike Complex, pairing an autonomous drone with an unmanned ground platform.
The system combines the Astero reconnaissance drone with the Raptor 2 patrol robot, running on shared software. The two platforms are designed to complement each other on the battlefield. Astero monitors terrain, detects enemy positions and relays real-time intelligence. Raptor 2 then acts on that data, engaging targets the drone identifies.
The package includes operator stations with laptops and radio equipment, plus simulators for training. FMV has also ordered purpose-built workshop containers for front-line maintenance. Deliveries to FMV, and handover to the Armed Forces, are scheduled for the second quarter of 2027. FMV is working closely with Nordic Wing to ensure documentation arrives at the right quality, scope and time.
The deal falls under FMV’s opportunity purchase framework, which targets systems already at a high Technology Readiness Level (TRL). This route lets FMV acquire mature, fully tested technology rather than developmental systems, and speeds up delivery to Swedish forces.
Eric Holmberg, Unit Manager for Artillery and Grenade Launcher Systems at FMV, commented that the acquisition allows the Armed Forces to keep building capability in the patrol robot domain.
The purchase reflects a wider European push toward integrating unmanned aerial and ground systems, as militaries seek faster sensor-to-shooter links on modern battlefields.
