AeroVironment has established a new joint venture in Greece, AV Eagle, partnering with Athens-based Eyeonix SA to expand its presence across the European defence market, according to a company statement.

The agreement follows a definitive shareholders agreement and Foreign Direct Investment approval from the Hellenic Republic Ministry of Foreign Affairs. AV will hold majority ownership, and the venture will consolidate within AeroVironment’s financial statements.

Building on a Decade of Cooperation

AV Eagle extends over ten years of collaboration between AeroVironment and Eyeonix. The venture aims to strengthen AeroVironment’s ability to pursue defence opportunities in Greece and the wider European market. Operations are expected to begin in fiscal year 2027.

Wahid Nawabi, AeroVironment’s Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, commented that Europe’s security environment has driven unprecedented demand for autonomous systems. He added that the venture aims to build long-term capacity with Greece and NATO allies while scaling manufacturing capabilities.

Manufacturing Plans and Timeline

AV Eagle plans to establish a Greek facility manufacturing unmanned aerial systems, loitering munitions, and counter-UAS systems. These would serve defence and civil protection customers across Greece and Europe. Production capabilities are targeted for 2028, with employment expected to grow as output scales.

The venture will collaborate with local industry and the Hellenic Center for Defence Innovation, aiming to accelerate fielding timelines and strengthen supply chain resilience.

Strategic Context

George K. Strouzakis, Chief Executive Officer of Eyeonix SA, commented that growing complexity along the EU’s Eastern Flank has heightened the need for sovereign, scalable unmanned and counter-UAS capabilities. He added that the partnership combines proven U.S. technology with European integration expertise, supporting broader NATO modernisation efforts and evolving EU defence doctrines.
