ASELSAN has demonstrated its KORKUT 35 air defence system in a live-fire event attended by defence delegations from 12 countries, according to the company. The trials focused on accurate fire on the move and the system’s ability to counter drones.
Engaging UAV threats
The demonstration tested KORKUT 35 against threats that armed forces encounter most often today. These include kamikaze UAVs and mini and micro UAVs. Under representative operational conditions, the system detected, tracked, engaged and neutralised several aerial targets.
Those targets included fixed-wing, delta-wing and mini/micro UAVs. ASELSAN ran the scenarios in a dynamic environment to show how the system performs against different types of aircraft.
KORKUT 35 can also engage fighter aircraft, cruise missiles, air-to-ground missiles and helicopters.
Accuracy on the move
A separate scenario assessed firing accuracy and shot dispersion. Both the system and a ground target were moving during the test. The 8×8 tactical wheeled vehicle carrying KORKUT 35 engaged the target while in motion, which showed its precision engagement capability.
Protecting manoeuvring forces
ASELSAN said the results highlight the system’s role as a mobile solution for protecting manoeuvring forces and critical assets. The company also presented KORKUT 35 as a cost-effective answer to low-cost aerial threats.
Cheap drones now pose a growing challenge to armed forces. Many air defence planners want options that avoid using expensive interceptors against inexpensive targets. Foreign delegations attending the trials gave ASELSAN a direct view of how KORKUT 35 addresses that problem.
