BAE Systems has delivered the first three of an eventual 663 BvS10 tracked armoured personnel carriers destined for the armed forces of three separate nations.

The Collaborative All-Terrain Vehicle (CATV) programme will see the rugged personnel carriers delivered to Germany, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

The basis for the new vehicles is the latest version of the BvS10 currently operated by Sweden, variants of the base platform include troop transport, logistics, medevac, recovery, and C2.

Initially, the lion’s share of the new BvS10s — 236 in all — will go to the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV); a total of 60 models are destined for the U.K.

The remaining 140 of the original total are headed for the Bundeswehr; however, an additional Purchase Order Agreement for 227 more BvS10 vehicles has since been contracted by the German Federal Ministry of Defence (BAAINBw).

The first three BvS10 vehicles in the Swedish, German, and U.K.’s joint procurement have recently rolled off the production line at BAE Systems Hägglunds in Sweden and were handed over in a special delivery ceremony.

As per BAE Systems: “The articulated mobility system provides optimal manoeuvrability across varying terrains to traverse snow, ice, rock, sand, mud or swamps, as well as steep mountain environments. The vehicle’s amphibious feature also allows it to swim in flooded areas or coastal waters.”

Five countries’ armed forces already use the BvS10: Austria, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the U.K.

Managing director of BAE Systems Hägglunds Tommy Gustafsson-Rask commented: “The extreme mobility capabilities offered by the BvS10, and the multiple uses that it enables, provides the user nations with a reliable, high tech and modern capability that is instantly ready for missions in the harshest environments.”

He added: “And because of the streamlined procurement model, nations will easily be able to join seamlessly and receive the advanced capabilities the BvS10 provides.”
