Indra is showcasing a new cruise missile, an interceptor drone and several air defence programmes at an Army event in Toledo, according to Indra.
The Spanish firm presented its SQUALL cruise missile and DRIZZLE effector. Indra says both give the Spanish Army low-cost, replaceable capabilities that can be fielded at scale to saturate adversary defences and drain their resources. The company has compressed its development processes to deliver them quickly.
New strike and interceptor systems
SQUALL is Spain’s first domestically built cruise missile. It strikes targets more than 300 kilometres away. The 3.4-metre missile weighs up to 150 kg at take-off and carries a 60 kg warhead.
DRIZZLE is an 80-centimetre effector that flies at 400 kilometres per hour. It engages drones, light vehicles and antennas at up to 80 kilometres. A carrier drone extends that range to 130 kilometres. The carrier is expendable, carries its own explosive warhead and can also act as a strike vector. Operators can integrate DRIZZLE into a counter-drone system, launch it from the ground, or mount it on a drone or helicopter.
Modernisation programmes on display
The event also features Special Modernisation Programmes in which Indra participates:
- SANTAM: supply of 147 Tarsis tactical drones in fixed-wing and VTOL versions.
- ARACNE: a counter-drone system Indra is developing with EM&E.
- COAAAS: an anti-aircraft artillery operations system that integrates Indra’s AESA MTR radars.
Indra designed all of these systems for multidomain operations, so they work together as a system of systems. The company says it drew on lessons from the war in Ukraine and from Spain’s role in the Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative. The work also answers NATO calls for faster development cycles.
Dragón 8×8 milestone
Indra has led TESS Defence for 18 months and says it has more than doubled this year’s deliveries of the VCR 8×8 Dragón, the centrepiece of the Army’s Force 35 plan. The 100th vehicle was delivered this week, coinciding with the event.
On the second day, Ángel Torrijo of Indra’s Weapons & Ammunition division joins a counter-drone panel. Brigadier General Manuel César Arienza, Commander of the Anti-Aircraft Artillery Command, moderates.
