Precision motion systems manufacturer Moog Inc. and radar platform company Echodyne Corp. have signed a collaboration agreement to jointly develop and demonstrate integrated defence solutions, targeting air and missile defence, airfield security, and combat vehicle applications.
The deal pairs Moog’s established weapon-systems expertise with Echodyne’s MESA radar technology — a metamaterial electronically scanned array platform known for high-fidelity tracking data at low altitudes. Combined, the two companies aim to accelerate delivery of mission-ready systems to global defence markets faster than either could achieve independently.
Addressing Growing Counter-Drone Demand
Counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) threats have surged up defence procurement agendas worldwide. Conflicts in Ukraine, the Middle East, and elsewhere have exposed critical gaps in low-altitude air defence. Integrated systems capable of detecting, tracking, and engaging small UAS remain in high demand across NATO and partner nations.
Echodyne’s MESA radars are designed specifically for that challenge. They provide wide-area situational awareness at low altitudes — a capability traditional military radars often struggle to deliver cost-effectively. Moog brings the weapon-system integration layer: precision actuation, turret drives, and fire control expertise underpinning numerous ground-based defence platforms.
“Moog recognises the value of our MESA radars’ unique high-fidelity data for effective counter-drone and low-altitude air defence,” said Echodyne CEO Eben Frankenberg, according to the joint announcement. “We are excited to collaborate with an industry leader such as Moog.”
Speed to Field as a Strategic Priority
Mike Gruver, Moog Defense Senior Vice President, framed the partnership around fielding speed — increasingly a competitive differentiator in a defence market under pressure to deliver capability faster than acquisition cycles traditionally allow.
“This relationship allows us to move faster than we could independently,” Gruver said.
The two companies plan joint test and experimentation campaigns, product development, live demonstrations, and coordinated pursuit of new defence contracts. The agreement covers a range of applications aligned with national security priorities, though specific programmes remain undisclosed.
