Babcock International has been demonstrating its BITE immersive training package to potential customers.
The Babcock Immersive Training Experience (BITE) is designed to deliver realistic exercises, adopting a multi-sensory approach to subject those taking part to operationally realistic effects, including the sound of fighter jets and artillery fire, generated odours, power outages and smoke.
At DSEI 2025 in London last week for the final two days of the show it was in its land-based command bunker variant, as per a company press statement, one British Army warrant officer had described it as being “as close as you’re going to get to the real thing.”
For the first two days it was in its newly launched maritime configuration, presented as a Ship Control Centre.
The BITE package It also monitors and measures the responses of those involved and records everything, enabling effective training performance reviews.
Managing Director for Babcock’s Training business Jo Rayson said: “Navies need realistic and representative training which prepares teams for operations, while using innovative technology to help free up platforms.
“We’ve shown how BITE can transform soldier training — and thanks to the technology and adaptability, we can reconfigure it for a variety of scenarios across land, sea and air. In this case, we’ve turned it into a Ship Control Centre where exercises can quickly and efficiently be repeated time and again without the need for actual platforms.”
The firm brought one of its containerised BITE packages to DSEI 2025 in London last week; for the first two days it was in its maritime configuration, then for the remainder of the show it switched to its land-based command bunker variant.
