Rheinmetall has secured a major international contract for its Skynex air defence system, with the deal valued at several hundred million euros, as per a recent press statement.

Booked in the second quarter of 2026, the contract marks a first-time agreement with an undisclosed international customer and covers the delivery of four complete Skynex systems over a 39-month execution timeline. Rheinmetall Italia is acting as prime contractor, with Rheinmetall Air Defence, Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles, and Rheinmetall Weapon and Munitions (Switzerland) all contributing to delivery.

The first Skynex battery is scheduled for handover 21 months after contract signature. Subsequent batteries will follow at six-month intervals, delivering a sequenced capability build for the customer.

The agreement extends well beyond hardware. It includes trucks, ammunition, and a comprehensive Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) package, which covers specialist training, spare parts, tooling, and consumables. Rheinmetall notes the ILS package is fully incorporated into the total contract value, ensuring the customer achieves operational readiness without additional procurement burden.

The Skynex system is a gun-based very short-range air defence (VSHORAD) solution designed to counter a broad spectrum of contemporary threats, including unmanned aerial systems and Counter-Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar (C-RAM) targets. As drone warfare and indirect fire threats continue to dominate modern battlefields, demand for capable VSHORAD platforms has intensified across NATO and partner nations.

The contract further extends Rheinmetall’s international customer base for Skynex, reinforcing the company’s position as a leading provider of next-generation short-range air defence technology.
