The United States Marine Corps Reserve has, for the first time in its history, deployed multidomain collection assets during a live integration course, marking a significant capability milestone at Integrated Training Exercise (ITX) 3-26, held at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) in Twentynine Palms, California, as per a recent press statement.
The Information and Intelligence Integration Course is a three-day training evolution designed for Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) 23 intelligence and information personnel. Marines are actively synchronising signals intelligence (SIGINT), electronic warfare, limited expeditionary cyberspace operations, and information manoeuvre elements into a unified battlespace picture. Replicating this level of multidomain integration in reserve training environments has historically proved difficult.
Marine Corps Colonel Aaron Awtry, commanding officer of the task force, commented: “As a commander, having a clear and immediate picture of the battlespace is everything. These new emerging technologies within the Marine Corps have fundamentally changed how we operate.”
The course combines classroom instruction, detailed planning, and dynamic lane training conducted within an active firing range. Intelligence collectors must scan for adversary signatures, execute information-related activities, and feed data to the operations centre, which then produces actionable intelligence for commanders.
Marine Corps Chief Warrant Officer 2 Zachary Moore, a subject matter expert and course instructor, added: “This gives reserve Marines an opportunity to use capabilities they will not have organically until future force design initiatives are implemented.” Moore described the course’s approach as “no sensor left behind,” introducing new capabilities ahead of formal force structure delivery.
The exercise reflects the broader modernisation drive across the reserve force, as the Marine Corps works to maintain pace with the evolving demands of multidomain warfare.
