Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A. (PGZ) and Anduril Industries have signed a cooperative agreement to produce Surface-Launched Barracuda-500M (SLB-500M) cruise missiles in Bydgoszcz, Poland, as per a recent press statement. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz attended the signing.
The agreement builds on an October memorandum of understanding. PGZ’s subsidiary WZL-2 will work with Anduril to manufacture thousands of SLB-500M systems for the Polish Armed Forces. Bydgoszcz, known as the “NATO Capital of Poland,” brings established manufacturing and logistics expertise to the project.
The Barracuda-500M was designed for low-cost mass production, addressing NATO’s need for affordable, long-range precision fires along its eastern flank. The missile carries a 100-pound payload and offers over 500 nautical miles of range. It can strike land and maritime targets using a simplified, resilient architecture.
PGZ and Anduril plan to phase in more Polish and European components over time. Their aim is a majority European-made, SAFE-compliant version of the missile.
President of the PGZ Management Board Adam Leszkiewicz commented: “This is a completely new area of equipment for the Polish Armed Forces, and we expect positive interest in our new product, and potentially other markets.”
Anduril Vice President for Europe Brian Moran added: “By bringing Barracuda production to Poland with PGZ, we are helping build a European industrial base that can replenish precision fires at the speed of relevance.”
The US Department of War also agreed a framework in May with Anduril to scale SLB-500M production, underscoring transatlantic momentum behind the programme.
