American Rheinmetall will manufacture 3,104 new MK93 enhanced softmount systems and upgrade 245 existing units under a $20.7 million (€18.05 million) order supporting the US Army, according to American Rheinmetall.
The company will carry out the work at its Maine facility. Deliveries begin in 2026 and run through October 2027. The order comes through defence contractor ADS Inc and the Defense Logistics Agency.
Scope of the order
The contract covers new production and a retrofit programme. American Rheinmetall will bring the 245 previously delivered mounts up to the current configuration.
The MK93 enhanced softmount secures crew-served weapons such as heavy machine guns. The company says the design offers stability, durability and configuration commonality, which simplifies long-term sustainment.
Political and industrial backing
Senator Susan Collins, R-Maine, welcomed the award. She said the Army’s purchase of more than 3,000 mounting systems benefits the York County economy and highlights Maine’s role in national defence. She added that workers in Biddeford continue the state’s tradition of manufacturing reliable equipment for service members.
Michael Thibault, the company’s Director of Business Development, said the award reflects US customers’ confidence in American Rheinmetall. He said the Maine facility takes pride in producing and upgrading the systems.
Industry context
The order strengthens American Rheinmetall’s position in the US defence industrial base. It also fits wider priorities of modernisation, standardisation and domestic production. The company expects follow-on orders, though it has not confirmed details.
American Rheinmetall also offers the MK93 enhanced softmount for commercial sale to eligible customers, subject to regulations and export controls.
