Babcock has supplied its AI-powered signal intelligence platform, Nomad, to the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD), fulfilling an urgent operational requirement for the Armed Forces.
Nomad is Babcock’s first fully AI-powered product built to support military and security teams operating in contested environments. The platform targets personnel conducting Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, offering new connected capabilities that strengthen situational awareness on and around the battlefield.
The system cleans, transcribes, translates and analyses enemy voice and text communications. It delivers actionable insights across any domain, anywhere in the world. By enabling operators to interpret enemy communications at the edge in real time, Nomad reduces reliance on linguists deployed in the field. It also builds a detailed picture of a target’s position, movements and capabilities, giving forces an immediate operational advantage.
Chief Executive of Babcock’s Land and Mission Systems business, Louise Atkinson, commented that customers need the ability to connect people, intelligence and operations to secure mission advantage in an increasingly volatile world. She added that Nomad demonstrates Babcock’s capacity to harness AI-driven technology in support of the Armed Forces and Security Services, strengthening their front-line capabilities.
Atkinson added that Babcock’s sovereign expertise allows it to solve complex problems and deliver operational advantage at pace, wherever customers need it.
The deal underscores growing demand for AI-enabled intelligence tools as militaries face increasingly contested and information-dense operating environments, where speed of understanding often determines tactical outcomes.
