France’s defence procurement agency has exercised an option for more MX-10 DAMOCLES loitering munitions, according to a KNDS and DELAIR announcement published in Versailles on 13 October 2026.

The Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA) triggered an optional tranche of the contract it signed with the two companies in 2024. The order adds a further batch for the French Ministry of the Armed Forces and Veterans and will expand production capacity for the system.

Contract timeline

The DGA awarded the original contract in July 2024. First deliveries followed in December 2025. The new order comes two years after the initial award and confirms the system’s role as the reference loitering munition for the French Army and Navy.

Capabilities

The MX-10 DAMOCLES carries a fragmentation warhead and an arming safety device designed to protect the operator. Crews can deploy it in under five minutes. It can engage a wide range of targets, including protected vehicles.

The system has a 10 km range and a target search function. Infantry can detect and identify a target, then strike it remotely. According to the companies, it resists the latest electronic warfare capabilities and can operate in contested environments.

Programme and export outlook

Industry developed and qualified the system in record time under the ministry’s MTO-CP procurement programme. KNDS and DELAIR are now pursuing several export sales campaigns.

The MX-10 DAMOCLES belongs to MATARIS, which the companies describe as the first family of sovereign French loitering munitions. The family is designed to engage all land targets, from logistics convoys to heavy armour.

Loitering munitions have become a core part of modern arsenals, and the DGA’s repeat order underlines that shift.
