The Mexican Air Force has purchased its first Lockheed Martin C-130J-30 Super Hercules, making Mexico the first Latin American country to operate the advanced tactical airlifter.

Mexico’s acquisition marks one of two international C-130J contracts finalized in 2025, according to Lockheed Martin. The aerospace giant has not yet disclosed the second customer. The purchase brings Mexico into a global community of 25 nations operating more than 560 C-130J aircraft worldwide.

The Mexican Air Force is replacing its aging Hercules fleet with the modern C-130J-30 variant. This decision builds on five decades of C-130 operational experience and ensures continued interoperability with allied forces operating the platform.

Extended Capability for Regional Operations

Mexican crews will fly the C-130J-30, the stretched version offering 15 additional feet of cargo space. The aircraft delivers increased power, range, fuel efficiency and payload capacity compared to legacy models.

The Super Hercules provides proven tactical airlift capabilities while allowing Mexico to leverage existing C-130 flying, maintenance and logistics expertise. This operational continuity enables a seamless transition and faster modernization without major infrastructure overhauls.

“This historic decision by Mexico reflects the continued trust placed in the C-130J Super Hercules by operators around the world,” said Trish Pagan, vice president of Lockheed Martin’s Air Mobility & Maritime Missions. She noted the C-130J-30 offers unmatched performance, exceptional reliability and versatility across all 20 certified mission sets.

Proven Platform for National Missions

The C-130 Hercules has served Mexico for over 50 years in natural disaster response, military operations and humanitarian missions. The aircraft symbolizes Mexico’s commitment to regional security and represents the enduring partnership between Lockheed Martin and the Mexican Air Force.

Mexico’s selection reflects growing demand for multi-role airlift capabilities across Latin America. The C-130J Super Hercules offers certified multi-mission versatility unmatched by competing tactical airlifters, according to the manufacturer.

Advanced Fifth-Generation Design

The C-130J Super Hercules features advanced avionics, enhanced survivability systems and improved operational performance over previous Hercules generations. The platform is certified for 20 mission types including airdrop, search and rescue, firefighting, medical evacuation, intelligence gathering and special operations.

With more than 560 aircraft delivered globally, the C-130J serves as the backbone of tactical airlift for military forces worldwide. The platform’s proven reliability and sustained production ensure long-term support and capability growth for operators.

Mexico’s acquisition strengthens regional air mobility capabilities and positions the Mexican Air Force to conduct expanded humanitarian, disaster relief and security missions throughout Latin America and beyond.
